As an Environmental Health Officer you will be at the forefront of public health; tackling key social determinants and promoting healthy living environments, communities, and lifestyles through community engagement, education, food security initiatives, and public health advice.

As an Environmental Health Officer, you will:

Plan, develop and undertake community environmental health promotion and enforcement programs and activities to protect the public from physical, chemical and biological hazards.

Deliver essential environmental health services across urban and remote areas.

Administer and enforce environmental health legislation to protect community wellbeing.

Conduct risk assessments, compliance actions, outbreak investigations, and emergency management.

Engage with urban and remote communities to foster partnerships and drive long-term health improvements.

Who we’re looking for

We welcome applicants at both P1 and P2 levels:

P2 Applicants: Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health or a related degree with a graduate diploma in Environmental Health from an Australian tertiary institution.

P1 Applicants: Must be currently progressing through an undergraduate Environmental Health degree or have a degree and be willing to enrol in a graduate diploma. NT Health offers study support and may assist with associated study costs.

To be successful, applicants will:

Have a strong knowledge of environmental health legislation, policies, and practices, with experience in urban and remote settings.

Be able work independently in the field while effectively implementing program activities and contributing to program objectives.

Possess strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage with diverse communities, negotiate solutions, and address complex issues.

Hold a current NT manual driver's licence or the ability to obtain one.
