About Orthonova

Orthonova is a collaboration between St John of God Health Care and a group of Perth's leading orthopaedic surgeons and will deliver a superbly comfortable, individualised patient experience, underpinned by the highest standards of clinical quality and safety.

Opening in early 2027, the centre will set the standard for quality orthopaedic care, supported by clinician input and world-leading technology. The vision is to build a unique centre which is the benchmark in expert, personalised orthopaedic care and education, and at the forefront of technology and sustainability in healthcare.

Once complete the centre will comprise of:

  • Four advanced operating theatres
  • 38 overnight beds
  • 20 chair day surgery and day of surgery lounge
  • A dedicated entry and seamless support services integrated with St John of God Murdoch Hospital with the two hospitals connected via a linking bridge

The new state of the art facility will have a unique presence in the growing Murdoch precinct that will embody sustainability and technology while delivering an unmatched patient experience.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Nurse Practitioner Candidate to join our team as part of Orthonova's strategic model of care.

This is a unique opportunity to participate in our first structured Nurse Practitioner Candidacy Program, developed in line with the Western Australia WA Nurse Practitioner Candidacy and Integration Framework, which requires Nurse Practitioner/s to form an important part of the Orthonova's workforce strategy and model of care on opening.

The successful candidate will join St John of God Murdoch Hospital's multidisciplinary team working in an orthopaedic setting for the duration of a fixed term contract providing senior nursing care at an advanced practice level to patients undergoing orthopaedic and sports medicine surgery.

The Program includes:

  • Dedicated mentorship and clinical support
  • Exposure across operating theatres, anaesthetics, and emergency care
  • Comprehensive development: orientation, leadership, advanced skill development, research component, reflective practice and case reviews

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver advanced, autonomous nursing care in acute care, orthopaedic and sports medicine settings
  • Provide clinical consultation and leadership while undergoing candidacy training
  • Support deteriorating patients through high-level assessment and management
  • Act as a role model, mentor and educator within the multidisciplinary team
  • Lead and contribute to evidence-based care, quality improvement and clinical innovation
  • Participate in data analysis and KPI reporting to enhance service performance
  • Liaise across stakeholder groups, contributing to internal and external forums

The successful candidate will hold AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse and be currently enrolled in the Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) that is clinically relevant to context of advanced practice nursing and recognised as an approved program of study via AHPRA. Successful completion of University course unit requirements in line with course duration is a requirement of the Nurse Candidate position.

You will have significant post-registration clinical experience, strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, and a deep commitment to clinical excellence and patient-centred care.

A proven track record in leadership and the ability to educate and influence clinical practice are essential.
