Role Type: full time - 2-year contract
Salary: $106,667-$120,529 p.a. plus super
The opportunity:
The MCRI Transcriptomics and Bioinformatics Group are a multidisciplinary team of computational and molecular biologists who specialise in mining genomic information to uncover the underlying genetic causes of congenital diseases, such as congenital heart disease.
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to support collaborative projects spanning across the MCRI Transcriptomics & Bioinformatics Group and cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas studies, led by A/Prof Annette Lim based at The Sir Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (PMCC).
The incumbent will be embedded at the MCRI in the Transcriptomics and Bioinformatics Group but will support bioinformatics efforts across both MCRI and PMCC. This role will be responsible for the primary processing of ‘omics datasets, mostly derived from single cell and spatially resolved technologies, as well as downstream analysis and biological interpretation of results under the guidance and supervision of A/Prof Fernando Rossello (MCRI) and A/Prof Annette Lim (PMCC).
Your responsibilities include:
- Producing innovative high-quality research independently and collaboratively, in the area of single cell genomics, both spatially and non-spatially resolved. .
- Making significant and/or independent contributions to grant submissions and publications including lead authorship
- Providing effective supervision of major Honours or Postgraduate research projects and supervise or co-supervise Research Higher Degree and Honours students
- Participating in research independently and as a member of research teams both within MCRI and external collaborators
- Assisting the Group Leader/Direct report in high level duties (e. g., grant applications, publication revisions)
What we need from you:
- PhD or equivalent professional qualification in bioinformatics, genome sciences computational biology, or related area, or equivalent experience
- Proficient understanding of DNA and RNA biology
- Proven analytical skills of single cell genomics, transcriptomics and epigenomics experiments.
- Proficiency in R, Python, High Performance Computing, generation of web resources and data visualisation
