About the role
The Senior Policy Officer, Disability will lead a project to assess and report on the disability landscape for Aboriginal people in Victoria as part of wider work across Australia, this will include recommendations to address the low participation and utilisation rates of the National Disability Insurance Scheme among Aboriginal people with a disability. The officer will conduct high-quality research, sector consultation, policy analysis and provide policy advice on these issues throughout the life of the project. The activities include:
Workforce and service delivery analysis;
Desktop research on the policy landscape
Engagement with Aboriginal and disability stakeholders and synthesis and analysis of information obtained through engagement
Assessment of service delivery through regional needs assessments.
Essential skills/experiences
To be successful in this role, you will need a demonstrated experience as a Senior Policy Officer, including experience in project management, research, report writing and excellent stakeholder engagement.
Desirable
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are strongly encouraged to apply as your cultural and lived experiences are central to the work we do.
Experience with consultation processes – particularly with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities
Experience drafting policy frameworks and translating policy directions into program frameworks and/or implementation strategies.

The Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (VACCHO) was established in 1996. VACCHO is the peak Aboriginal health body representing 100% of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) in Victoria. The role of VACCHO is to build the capacity of its Membership and to advocate for issues on their behalf.
Capacity is built amongst Members through strengthening support networks, increasing workforce development opportunities and through leadership on particular health areas. Advocacy is carried out with a range of private, community and government agencies, at state and national levels, on all issues related to Aboriginal health.
