Director, Regulation

• New leadership role overseeing a growing regulatory function and providing strategic direction and support to the Assistant Commissioner, Electoral Integrity and Regulation

• VPS Grade 7.1 ($188,297 to $210,891 p.a. plus 12% superannuation guarantee)

• Unique opportunity for an experienced regulatory leader to steer the next phases of the VEC’s regulatory journey as we prepare for the 2026 State election

What you will be doing

Reporting directly to Assistant Commissioner, Electoral Integrity and Regulation, this role will be responsible for:

Setting the strategic direction and providing senior leadership for the VEC's regulatory function

Steering the direction and formulation of the VEC's regulatory priorities and promoting compliance

Overseeing regulatory activities, including investigations, regulatory outcomes, intelligence, prosecutions, compliance monitoring and referrals

Informing, nurturing and building relationships with government agencies and other regulators

Driving and leading the VEC's regulatory function towards better practice regulation and demonstrating excellence among electoral commissions

What you will bring to the role

Senior leadership experience in regulation, assurance, risk, investigations, enforcement or a related field.

Demonstrated understanding of investigative, law enforcement and prosecutorial processes, including the responsible use of coercive powers, supervising the consolidation of evidence into high-quality briefs, deciding regulatory enforcement actions and prosecution, and deploying other regulatory responses proportionate to harm

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and expertise in negotiating and influencing solutions to complex organisational problems

Experience in good public administration practices, including crisis, issue and risk management, assurance, audit, integrity and statutory reporting requirements
