Mount Isa City Council provides employment for approximately 200 employees in a variety of full time, part time, contractual and casual positions.

These positions cover the full scope of Council operations from administration, financial, professional and technical roles to operational positions within the various sections.

About the role

This position involves the leadership and management of Mount Isa City Council’s Water and Sewer operations and utilities to ensure that Council meet its legislative and ethical obligations within these areas of operation. This position also requires the interaction between Council’s customer base with the operational areas to ensure that all utility services are delivered effectively and efficiently within reasonable Council and Customer expectations.

About You

You will have:

Bachelor of Engineering (Civil or Environmental).

Demonstrated experience in the water industry involving all or part of the functions of planning, design, construction or operations.

Demonstrated experience in a management role preferably in Local Government is desirable.

A thorough knowledge of the regulatory requirements of a water and sewerage service provider is desirable.

Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) or an ability to readily attain.

Prior knowledge of water and sewer infrastructure and operations, including associated pumping and treatment plant operation and relevant legislative requirements applicable to these activities.

Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in an equivalent position preferably in a similar sized organisation.

Demonstrated understanding of legislation relevant to the operation of water and waste operations in local governments.

Proven ability to manage both operational and administrative fields in aligning day-to-day activities with strategic goals.

Excellent interpersonal, communication and analytical skills to articulate complex water/sewer information and data in non-technical jargon.
