Senior Bookkeeper – Team Leadership Opportunity

Are you an experienced bookkeeper with a passion for leadership and client service? Approach Consulting are seeking a Senior Bookkeeper with strong technical skills and team management experience to join our client's growing firm and help shape the future of their bookkeeping practice.

Approach have partnered with a Canberra based bookkeeping firm, proudly supporting a diverse portfolio of small to medium businesses across a range of industries. Due to recent growth and opportunity, the team are looking for someone who can help lead and mentor the expanding team.

In this hands-on role, you’ll be responsible for managing a portfolio of clients, overseeing bookkeeping tasks, and mentoring junior team members. You'll work closely with business owners and accountants to deliver accurate and timely financial information and build strong client relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

• End-to-end bookkeeping for a range of clients, including payroll, BAS/IAS, accounts payable/receivable, and bank reconciliations
• Supervision and mentoring of junior bookkeepers
• Reviewing work prepared by team members and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation
• Acting as a point of contact for client queries and delivering exceptional customer service
• Collaborating with accountants and external advisors to support clients’ financial management
• Identifying opportunities to streamline processes and improve efficiencies within the team
• Assisting with onboarding new clients and setting up systems

About You:

• 5+ years of bookkeeping experience, ideally in a public practice or multi-client environment
• Previous experience supervising or managing team members
• Excellent knowledge of Xero and/or MYOB (Xero certification highly regarded)
• Strong understanding of GST, payroll, superannuation, and compliance requirements
• Exceptional attention to detail and time management skills
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Bookkeeping or accounting qualification (Cert IV or higher)
