About the role
In this role, you will work as part of the Community Child Health Leadership Team, where you will support the clinical governance functions of the department, including:

  • Provision of educational support to enhance the clinical knowledge and skills of MCH nursing students, new graduates, and practicing MCH nurses to ensure the provision of high-quality clinical care for families who utilise the service.
  • Lead the continuous improvement and governance program of the MCH service.

Work type: Permanent Part Time (0.8FTE – 4 days per week)
Classification: Band MCH Year 4 Commencing at $127,298 pa (plus applicable allowances)

Key responsibilities include:

  • Working within the Community Child Health leadership team as an expert on compliance management for nurses and students, with specialised knowledge of best clinical practice, ensuring adherence to clinical practice guidelines and relevant legislative guidelines such as Child Safe Standards.
  • Responsible for building and maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders, including Universities and other councils, and participating in the Community of Practice for MCH Clinical Educators in order to foster collaboration, share best practices, support professional development, and ensure the delivery of high-quality maternal and child health education and services.
  • Management of the MCH student program, including student selection, coordinating student placement, selection and matching of preceptors, induction of students, organising clinical supervision and education sessions.
  • Management of the Graduate Program, including the organisation of additional clinical supervision, mentoring, and educational sessions.
  • Support the planning and delivery of orientation programs for new employees.
  • Provide clinical practice support to the team or individual team members as necessary, or in response to identified learning needs or changes in program guidelines.

About you
The ideal candidate for this role will be a highly experienced Maternal Child Health Nurse, with previous experience as a Team Leader. You will be comfortable liaising with a diverse range of people, be adaptable and solutions focused, with high levels of attention to detail, problem solving, resilience and empathy.

Essential Experience:

  • Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse Division One and Registered Midwife with a post-graduate qualification in Child and Family Health nursing (minimum of Graduate Diploma if qualified in 1999 or later).
  • Certificate IV in Assessment and Training or actively working towards completing it within 6 months.
  • Working with Children’s Check (employee – Victoria)
  • Significant experience in clinical practice as a Universal MCH nurse
  • Previous experience in a leadership or education role.
  • Highly developed, evidence based theoretical knowledge and skills in MCH nursing.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify training needs and provide effective mentoring, supervision and education for both students and employees.
  • Preferred candidates will be required to undergo a National Police Check and a pre-employment medical assessment as part of the recruitment process (funded by the City).
