Peter Cain MLA, Liberal Member for Ginninderra, is looking for a highly motivated and well organised Adviser to provide administrative, communication and parliamentary support.

The role is offered on a full-time or part-time basis. Ideally, the successful candidate will work four or five days per week.

It is desirable, but not essential, to have a background in law, economics or public policy, and an interest in ACT politics.

Position Description

Responsibilities include:

Staff management

Office administration and diary management

Respond to electorate correspondence from constituents

Assistance with events and functions

Parliamentary work and speech writing

Liaison with government, opposition members, and community stakeholders

Selection Criteria

High level organisation/diary management skills

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Strong prioritisation and time management skills

Flexibility, initiative, and the ability to multi-task

Familiarity with the Microsoft suite (particularly Outlook, Word and Excel)

Team player with outstanding interpersonal skills and attention to detail

Demonstrated capacity to exercise sound judgement, discretion and perform at a high standard under limited supervision

Previous experience in a client service environment

This position is offered under the Legislative Assembly (Members’ Staff) Act 1989 and conditions are outlined in the ACT Legislative Assembly Members’ Staff Enterprise Agreement 2023-2026

This position will have a probationary period of three (3) months. A contract will be offered until the end of the 11th Assembly. Salary will be negotiated with the successful candidate.
