We are currently seeking a compassionate and capable Case Officer – Immediate Housing Response (IHR) to join our Toowoomba team.
About the Role
As the Case Officer – IHR, you’ll play a vital role in supporting individuals and families experiencing homelessness and complex challenges. Working within a client-centred, trauma-informed framework, you will guide people on their journey toward safe, supported and sustainable housing.
You’ll manage referrals and assessments, create and review case plans, and provide direct support to clients. Collaboration is key – you’ll work closely with support workers, property officers, and a network of internal and external stakeholders to deliver coordinated services and ensure positive outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Receive referrals and conduct comprehensive needs assessments
Develop, implement and review client-centred case plans
Provide support focused on building life skills, parenting capacity and sustainable housing outcomes
Facilitate referrals and coordinate care with local agencies and service providers
Maintain detailed, timely case notes and client records in line with compliance requirements
Advocate for clients and represent Youturn at relevant forums and community meetings
Support clients to maintain tenancy, engage in savings plans and transition to long-term housing
Ensure the safety and wellbeing of clients and their children at all times
What You’ll Bring
Essential Experience & Qualifications
Tertiary qualifications in Human Services, Social Housing, Community Welfare or related discipline
Demonstrated experience in social housing or crisis accommodation programs
Strong understanding of client-centred case management and trauma-informed care
Knowledge of the challenges impacting individuals and families experiencing homelessness
Familiarity with the child protection system and relevant legislation
Knowledge of local service networks and the ability to build collaborative partnerships
Blue Card (Working with Children Check)
Suitability Check (or ability to obtain) by the Department of Child Safety
Open, current C Class Driver’s Licence
Selection Criteria
Applicants must address the following criteria in their cover letter:
Experience in delivering crisis accommodation or social housing support
Knowledge of client-centred case management frameworks
Understanding of homelessness, child protection, and social disadvantage
Ability to navigate community services and make appropriate referrals
Ability to work autonomously and as part of a values-driven team
