Position Description | Media & Communications Manager

As Media and Communications Manager, you will be the gatekeeper of information and tailor internal campaigns for ophthalmologists and ASO members as well as external public health campaigns to increase awareness about eye disease and eye surgery in Australia.

This role touches on all aspects of media and communications and reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer.

The ideal candidate will be an all-rounder and self-starter who is energised to tackle challenges and continues to seek opportunities to learn and evolve in the role — no task will be too big or too small!

A passion for healthcare and community is a must.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Internal Communications: You will be responsible for project management and delivery of the monthly e-newsletter (EyeWatch) and biannual print and digital magazine (ASO Members’ Bulletin).

This includes contributing content, editing copy, overseeing a graphic designer and/or creating assets in Canva, developing and distributing email campaigns via MailChimp, and managing advertising bookings, among other essential tasks.

As required, you will also develop and distribute ad-hoc Eye Opener emails to members on emerging issues and news.

Media Relations: As the first point of contact for all media requests, you will liaise with the Chief Executive Officer and the Board of Directors to provide timely responses as required.

You will also be responsible for identifying and leading proactive and reactive media opportunities.

Media Partnerships: The ASO has established media partnerships with local and international industry media outlets.

You will be the primary contact who aims to ensure these partnerships continue to deliver for the ASO and its members.

Social Media: You will be responsible for developing all social media content, posting, publishing, and monitoring the ASO’s primary accounts on LinkedIn and Facebook.

At the end of each month, you will be required to produce a performance data report. This information is essential and used to update the ASO Advertising Prospectus and Rate Card each calendar year.

e-Learning Management System: The groundwork has been laid to deliver the first online learning management system (LMS) for ASO members through the e-learning platform, Absorb.

You will become the new project lead for the launch of the ASO ProVision Academy.

Membership Support: You will be required to work closely with the Manager of Members and Partnerships and the Office and Membership Co-Ordinator to provide communication support on membership campaigns.

This may include the annual ASO Skills Expo conference; social networking and professional development events for specific member groups, such as ‘Trainees and New Fellows’; as well as membership drive and renewal periods.

Website: The ASO website is hosted through a hybrid membership platform.

It is the responsibility of this role to maintain, review, and update the ASO website as necessary. This includes maintaining a register of updates and pending improvement tasks.

Visual Media: You will continue to build and maintain a library of photos and videos for use across ASO marketing, media, and communications content.

This may include taking photographs and recording videos at ASO and other industry events or providing comprehensive briefs to external parties.
