About the opportunity
Southern Cross University is seeking a Senior Manager, Revenue Accountant. You will oversee revenue recognition for the University and its subsidiaries, collaborating with Financial Performance and Corporate Finance teams to support budgeting, forecasting, and statutory accounts. This is a critical role leading the accounts receivable team, managing key internal and external stakeholder relationships, and requiring deep knowledge of Commonwealth funding agreements. Your core responsibilities will include:
- Provide expert advice to senior leadership on all University revenue recognition matters, ensuring compliance with Australian accounting standards and Commonwealth funding requirements
- Oversee accurate income recognition, reconciliations, and reporting across all revenue streams, including student revenue and Commonwealth grants, collaborating with Financial Performance and Corporate Finance teams
- Lead and support the accounts receivable team in revenue collection, delinquent debt management, and operational improvements to enhance financial controls and processes
- Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including auditors and Commonwealth representatives, to ensure transparency and accuracy in revenue accounting
- Monitor revenue-related risks, internal controls, and sector performance, providing timely reporting and guidance to support the University’s financial objectives
About you
You will be passionate about driving financial accuracy and compliance, leading teams to deliver excellence, and continuously improving revenue processes to support the University’s strategic goals. More specifically, you will have:
- Relevant postgraduate qualification, CA or CPA, with substantial corporate finance experience in medium to large multi-site organisations
- Strong knowledge of statutory financial reporting and revenue recognition accounting standards, ideally with experience in higher education or high-volume revenue environments
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building relationships, influencing stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements
- Proven leadership in managing, coaching, and motivating teams while driving continuous improvement and change management initiatives
- High proficiency with financial systems such as TechnologyOne, and Microsoft Office, with demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.
Salary and benefits

- Full-time, continuing (permanent)
- Located at either Gold Coast, QLD 4225, or Lismore, NSW 2480. Generous relocation support available.
- HEW Level 10. The base salary ranges from $137,628 - $155,609 per annum, plus 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation. The total remuneration package is up to $182,062.
