About the Role
As the Chief Medical Scientist within the Department of Medical Oncology at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, you will lead and manage the department’s research portfolio, supporting current research programs while driving the development of new initiatives. Working closely with the Chair and clinical teams, you will play a pivotal role in facilitating high-quality, impactful research that contributes to advancing cancer care.
A key focus of this role will be expanding research in colorectal cancer including early onset cancer through strategic collaborations with internal departments across the Central Adelaide Local Health Network and with external research partners. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative cancer research, strengthen multidisciplinary partnerships, and deliver research outcomes that improve patient care and treatment pathways.
About You
You are an accomplished research professional with a PhD in a relevant field and a strong track record in oncology research, particularly in colorectal or other solid cancers. Your expertise in molecular biology, research leadership and grant acquisition is complemented by your ability to mentor students, manage staff and budgets, and foster collaborative relationships across scientific and non-scientific groups.
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
A PhD in a relevant field with extensive experience in molecular biology and colorectal or solid oncology research.
Proven success in obtaining peer-reviewed grants, publishing in high-ranking journals, and supervising Honours and PhD students.
Strong leadership, staff management and budget management skills, with a focus on fostering a motivated and professional research environment.
Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders and contribute to safety, quality and risk management principles.
