About the Role
Based in Midland, this role will focus on delivering health promotion services throughout the Wheatbelt region. The Tackling Indigenous Smoking Officer plays a critical role in reducing smoking rates among Aboriginal communities by preventing uptake of tobacco, vaping, and e-cigarettes, and supporting smoking cessation.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver culturally appropriate health promotion initiatives, such as forums, pop-up stalls, and support for smoke-free homes and workplaces.
Provide clear information to raise awareness about the harms of smoking and the benefits of quitting.
Evaluate and improve smoking prevention and cessation programs.
Build and maintain networks with local Aboriginal communities to support engagement and culturally tailored services.
Organise community events supporting anti-smoking campaigns (e.g., World No Tobacco Day, NAIDOC, fun runs).
Collect data for TIS program reporting and evaluation.
Support team capability through training and development opportunities.
Essential Certifications and Skills
Qualification in Health, Health Promotion, or relevant experience.
Current WA Driver’s Licence.
National Police Clearance (within 3 months).
Working with Children Check.
COVID-19 Vaccination certificate (from myGov, Medicare, or GP).
Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge
Experience in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health or Aboriginal health and well-being sectors.
Strong understanding of smoking harms and available prevention/cessation programs.
Excellent verbal and written communication.
Proficiency in IT tools: word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
Strong interpersonal and team collaboration skills.
Effective planning and time management abilities.
