About Us:
Corrections Victoria is responsible for the direction, management and operation of Victoria's prison system and Post Sentence Scheme. As a service agency within the Department of Justice & Community Safety (DJCS), Corrections Victoria develops and implements policies, programs and services that ensure the safe and secure containment of prisoners, and that seek to rehabilitate offenders by addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour.
The Barwon Southwest Prison Precinct incorporates four custodial facilities located 6km north-west of Lara, 20km from the centre of Geelong and about 70km from Melbourne. The four custodial facilities consist of two maximum security prisons being HM Prison Barwon and Western Plains Correctional Centre and medium security prison Marngoneet Correctional Centre and Karreenga Annex. The BSW Prison Services Team provides both operational and administrative services to HMP Barwon, Marngoneet Correctional Centre and the Karreenga Annex.
About the Role:
A Records officer provides strong administrative support in handling sensitive Prison and Prisoner documentation, administrative and business support services. In the context of a prison, a Record Officer provides a range of corporate support services, within the unique operational environment of the correctional facility. In context the role requires a strong focus on customer service, teamwork, integrity, accuracy, compliance, and timelines.
The Property Officer is responsible for maintaining the prisoner property stores stock levels, safekeeping of prisoner's stored property, prisoner property requests, the prisoner's greens store and valuables register. This position is an integral role in the transfer of prisoner's personal items between prison locations.
This position requires direct prisoner contact and supervision and may involve weekend and public holiday work, in accordance with the applicable provision of the VPS Enterprise Agreement 2024.
Some of your duties will include:
- Coordinating the preparation of all documentation relating to a prisoner's transfer, classification, release and court appearances and undertake operational processes associated with the prison's bails and discharges.
- Operating a range of systems including (Oracle, SPEND, PIMS, eJustice, TRIM, Inventory systems, Lotus Notes, Microsoft Office and Windows).
- Maintaining effective and professional communication with courts, police, legal entities, government departments, visitors, clients and various stakeholders.
About You:
To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate:
- Well-developed computer skills.
- Ability to undertake inquiries, prepare reports, correspondence and statistical returns.
- Sound knowledge or ability to learn and apply relevant legislation, policies, procedures, guidelines and regulations.
