About Western

With 11 campuses across Sydney and international locations in Vietnam and Indonesia—plus planned expansion in India—it serves nearly 50,000 students, 3,500 staff, and a global network of over 200,000 alumni. Ranked in the top 2% of universities worldwide, over 85% of its assessed research is rated ‘World Standard’ or above. The University is ranked #1 globally and nationally in the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings (2022-2025) for its commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

The Opportunity
Are you passionate about enabling impactful research through strong legal and administrative foundations? We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Research Contracts Coordinator to join our Research Services team.

Research Contracts Coordinator, you’ll support the University’s research ambitions by drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of research agreements and contracts. Your work will ensure that contract terms are equitable, not only legally sound and compliant but also structured to maximise research income and minimise institutional risk. You’ll collaborate closely with researchers, legal counsel, and administrative teams to ensure that all agreements align with legislative requirements, university policies, and partner expectations. Your responsibilities will span the full contract lifecycle, from initial negotiation and risk assessment to final execution and ongoing compliance monitoring. You’ll also be instrumental in briefing and advising delegated authorising officers on contractual risks and contribute to the development of legal templates that reflect evolving legislation and institutional needs.

This is a full-time, ongoing position based at Kingswood Campus, although travel to other campuses of the University may be required. Please review the position description for further information.

About You
You bring a strong foundation in contract creation, negotiation, and management, underpinned by an undergraduate qualification and/or relevant professional experience. Your sound understanding of the research funding environment, coupled with insight into the complexities of grant and contract administration, enables you to navigate agreements with confidence and precision. With high-level interpersonal and negotiation skills, you communicate effectively and facilitate productive interactions with a broad range of stakeholders, including researchers, legal representatives, government bodies, and external agencies. You are meticulous in your approach to documentation and thrive in managing competing deadlines within a dynamic environment. Your advanced digital literacy and familiarity with workflow systems and databases support your ability to track milestones and manage contract lifecycles efficiently.

If you’re ready to apply your legal expertise and coordination skills in a role that supports world-class research, we’d love to hear from you.

Why Join Us?
