As Community Safety Coordinator, you’ll lead a newly formed team responsible for delivering a responsive compliance and enforcement program, designed to build public trust, manage complex challenges and champion community care.

At the heart of it all is the City of Melbourne – a passionate, purpose-driven organisation where your work truly matters. As part of Team Melbourne, you’ll help deliver what’s most important to the people who live, work, study, visit and invest in our great city.
We’re proud champions of diversity, committed to continuous improvement, and driven by a shared vision for a vibrant and sustainable future.
This is more than just a role – it’s your chance to make a real impact, contribute to something bigger, and shape Melbourne’s future alongside a collaborative and forward-thinking team.
About you
You are a confident and purpose-driven leader with deep experience in community safety, enforcement, and community engagement. You’ve built a reputation for delivering and reporting on impactful programs, driving strategic performance, and fostering trust and success across diverse teams and stakeholders.
Your leadership style is grounded in clarity, empathy and integrity, bringing people together to deliver inclusive, outcome-focused services that help shape a safer Melbourne for all.
You will also bring
Substantial experience in leading a team within a regulatory environment with proven knowledge of, and ability to interpret, legislative and regulatory frameworks.
Proven experience in effectively managing multilayered projects within a complex environment.
The ability to think and lead strategically, being able to clearly articulate the interdependencies between strategy, operations, support, leadership and good governance.
Exceptional interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to use discretion and judgement, ideally demonstrated in a similar community/political setting.
Demonstrated experience in leading a team to achieve high performance outcomes with developed coaching skills to enhance team cohesion and the ability to effectively manage conflict and under performance.
This is a unique opportunity, to lead a new function – make this new position your own and see the difference you make in making our city safer.
