As a Local Laws Officer, you'll play a crucial role in enforcing and educating the community on a range of important areas, including:
Animal Management: Your responsibilities will include operating the animal management centre, investigating complaints such as dog attacks, livestock, straying dogs, barking dogs, poultry etc. Educating the community on responsible pet ownership issuing fines and taking enforcement actions as required to ensure public health and safety.
General Duties: Your responsibilities will extend to regulated parking, addressing abandoned vehicles, maintaining property aesthetics by addressing overgrown properties, combating illegal signage, and tackling the issue of illegal camping, making our community a better place to live.
By administering and enforcing Council's Local Laws and Policies, you'll be at the forefront of protecting public amenity, health, and safety in Mackay Regional Council.
To be successful in this role, you'll need the following qualifications and skills:
- Hold a QLD Working with Children Blue Card: This is a mandatory requirement to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals involved. Don't worry if you don't have one yet; we recommend starting the application process when you apply for the position.
- Current QLD 'C' Class Drivers Licence: With the freedom to travel across our beautiful region, You'll make a positive impact by reaching different areas in need.
- Regulatory Compliance Experience: Your experience in regulatory compliance, along with your ability to conduct effective investigations and write comprehensive reports, will be instrumental in fulfilling the responsibilities of this role.
- Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Dealing with difficult situations and resolving conflicts with professionalism and empathy are essential aspects of being a Local Laws Officer. Your strong interpersonal and communication skills will be put to good use every day.
- Time Management and Basic Literacy/Keyboard Skills: You'll be able to efficiently manage your time while handling various tasks, and basic literacy and keyboard skills will support your work in this role.
- Exposure to Animal Behaviour and Control (Highly Regarded): If you have previous experience or knowledge in animal behaviour and control, it will be considered an asset.
In addition, you must be willing to be part of an on-call roster, ensuring that our community receives prompt assistance whenever needed.
In return for your valued contribution, you will be rewarded with:
- Base Annual Salary $73,831 - $82,413 applicable allowances (dependent on experience and qualifications of the successful applicants)
- Up to 18% Superannuation (Conditions Apply)
- 9 day fortnight roster
