Currently, there are around 5.5 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 717,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.
A new role awaits
We have EL1 roles available in the Agency’s Foundational and Project Communications teams within the Strategic Communications Division.
The Foundational Communications team is responsible for championing simple, clear and consistent communications with an audience-led, content design approach. Here, innovation and inclusivity go hand in hand. This creates a dynamic environment where diverse ideas and perspectives are key to our mission. The Project Communications team supports participants through significant changes, ensuring they feel empowered, informed and confident in navigating the NDIS. We ensure communications are shaped with, and for, participants, reflecting preferences and lived experience. We drive continuous improvement to enhance communication, with a focus on accessibility, relevance and community needs.

Where you can add value
Duties of the Role may include but not limited to:
- Providing leadership, planning, resource management, performance management and decision making for the team.
- Providing high-level strategic communications advice and overseeing the development and execution of communications plans.
- Managing key internal and external stakeholder relationships, representing and negotiating on behalf of Strategic Communications to advance the NDIA’s interests across a range of forums. For example, attendance at internal multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings.
- Drafting and reviewing content (with team and stakeholders) in line with content design principles and content governance framework. Developing content maintenance plan and supporting website and content redevelopment project.
- Managing the Agency’s catalogue of national products, including content design, review, printing, accessible formats, warehousing and ordering.

Our ideal candidate will have:
- Experience in an equivalent team leadership position
- Experience in government/sector communications desirable
- Understanding of content design
- Experience in writing and editing accessible web copy and written products
- Experience in change and project management
- Familiarity with the Australian Government Style Manual

While this role is ideally performed from Surry Hills NSW, Brisbane QLD, Geelong and Richmond VIC, remote working arrangements may be considered. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.
Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
