Cultivating Community
Are you a hands-on, practical thinker with a passion for green spaces and community. Cultivating Community is a social enterprise with over 25 years of experience building and maintaining thriving communal and community gardens.
As a Property and Garden Handyperson, you’ll play a vital role in creating and maintaining vibrant, functional, and welcoming garden spaces that bring communities together. Working closely with our onsite Handy Person Supervisor and under the direction of the Maintenance and Operations Manager, you’ll help ensure our 21 community gardens and other properties remain safe, beautiful, and accessible for all.
Your work will be a mix of property maintenance, horticultural support, and hands-on construction and repair tasks. You’ll be responsible for fixing and improving essential elements like gates, locks, plumbing, garden beds, and sheds, as well as supporting the upkeep of communal paths, grassy areas, and compost zones. You’ll also assist with soft landscaping and help bring new garden designs to life.
In this dynamic, outdoor-based role, you’ll use a wide range of tools and equipment, from brush cutters and steam weeders to power tools and mowers, and will need to be comfortable with physical tasks and manual labour in various weather conditions.
You’ll also contribute to sustainability efforts, waste management, and community engagement by working alongside volunteers and other team members, all while supporting the continuous improvement of our garden programs. This is a role where no two days are quite the same—and where your practical skills will help grow both green spaces and community wellbeing.
