About the role

We are seeking a Freedom of Information (FOI) Specialist to join the Information Services team on a permanent full-time basis to provide essential legislated service to the community regarding information provision. The FOI Specialist reports to Coordinator – Information Management & Spatial Systems and will be responsible for information gathering and document discovery for external stakeholders as well as creating and training employees in information guidelines and processes. Above all, the FOI Specialist ensures that the City of Swan meets its legislative requirements under all relevant FOI legislation.

Key Accountabilities include, but are not limited to;

  • Ensures the City meets their Freedom of Information legislative requirement, and other performance data for the business unit.
  • Understands, interprets and communicates FOI legislation at the appropriate level of knowledge for all stakeholders.
  • Negotiates with external stakeholders regarding information and FOI requests.
  • Provides professional freedom of information advice to customers, community, employees and FOI applicants.
  • Processes and oversees freedom of information investigations and provide FOI decisions on behalf of the City of Swan.
  • Increase freedom of information awareness and responsibility of employees by developing, implementing, and maintaining FOI training and induction programs.

About you

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in related discipline and/or substantial experience in a freedom of information role.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act 1992 and associated regulations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in interpreting legislation.
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake research and analysis on freedom of information-related activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide Freedom of information advice on various matters.
  • Experience in processing FOI applications.
  • A satisfactory National Police Certificate is required.

The salary for this position will be from $91,194.72 - $108,194.90 per annum, depending on the skills and experience of the successful applicant.
