About the role

This role works as part of a team above ratios, supporting a group of children with a variety of needs in a sessional kindergarten. The role is supported in administration by a dedicated Service Support Coordinator and reports to the Early Years Place manager.

The role is a part of a broader integrated team that consists of social workers, other early childhood teachers, an occupational therapist and speech pathologist. The room is shared with another group and early childhood teacher during the other days of the week. Some administrative tasks are shared amongst the team.

Duties

  • Plan, develop and evaluate programming for children of kindergarten age that is reflective of evidence informed practice and meets the needs of individual children and groups within the kindy, including children with support needs and cultural diversity.
  • Liaise with allied health and ECDP visitors and implement strategies relating to individual learning plans.
  • Oversee the opening and closing of the Centre each day.
  • Support room staff in their daily work to enable the effective provision of services across the day.
  • Coordinate student placements, liaise with student supervisors and supervise students from universities, registered training organisations and TAFE.

Skills and Experience

As an experienced Early Childhood Teacher, you will have:

  • Bachelor of Teaching or Education (Early Childhood). Qualification must be recognised by ACECQA as an approved qualification for an Early Childhood Teacher (ECT)
  • Experience developing and evaluating curriculum and pedagogy which incorporates innovative practice.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with multiple children with diverse needs in the kindergarten, or similar, environment.
  • Ability to have supportive and respectful conversations with colleagues and families to collaborate on an individual learning program for each child.
  • Good time management skills, including the flexibility to adapt as the daily environment changes.
  • Commitment to lead intentional critical reflection to continually build practice and outcomes.
