About the Team
The Forensic Child and Youth Mental Health Service (CYMHS) is a specialist Program within the Children's Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service. Forensic CYMHS provides assessment and treatment services to young people with mental health issues and significant behavioural disturbance that have resulted/or place them at elevated risk of involvement with the criminal justice system. The goals of the Forensic Program are to promote recovery in children and young people with mental health needs and offending behaviours, increase community safety and reduce the risk of offending.
About the Role
- Provide diagnostic assessment and formulation and timely and appropriate treatment interventions.
- Case management as part of the multidisciplinary team; more advanced clinicians will demonstrate higher levels of independence and clinical skills.
- Provision of reports
- Referral, liaison and interagency collaborative care planning
- Advocacy for consumers and their families/carers
- Demonstrate ability to manage increasingly complex clinical caseloads and increasingly independent clinical practice under the supervision of a more senior clinician, as delegated by the Consultant Psychiatrist/Team Leader.
- Demonstrated ability to provide clinical mental health services and high degree of skills and knowledge to adapt practice to meet the culturally diverse mental health needs of CALD and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and families.
- Continually develop evidence-based knowledge and expertise in the child and youth mental health field and participate in continuing supervision, professional development and unit quality improvement activities.
- Work cooperatively and effectively with the multidisciplinary team and as a member of the discipline to achieve best practice outcomes for consumers and carers
- Provide advice, assessments and reports to contribute to and participate in multidisciplinary case management and to external stakeholders as required.
- Participate in practice supervision and training and with experience provide training and supervision to students as delegated by the Discipline Director.
