Regional leadership opportunity in tropical Nhulunbuy.
Drive impact across Aboriginal communities through innovation, leadership, and cultural integrity.
Are you ready to make a meaningful difference in some of Australia’s most unique and remote communities?
We're looking for a strategic and culturally grounded leader to head up Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD), and Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) Services in the East Arnhem Region. This is a rare opportunity to shape services that improve lives — in a role that blends high-level policy, clinical governance, and partnership leadership.
About the Role
As the Director you'll be responsible for leading the design and delivery of integrated, culturally safe services across the East Arnhem Region — home to around 14,000 people, predominantly Aboriginal, across 11 remote communities and multiple homelands.
You'll provide expert strategic advice to executives, manage complex partnerships with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations, and ensure stepped care models align with evidence-based practice. You’ll also sit on the East Arnhem Region’s leadership team and contribute to broader regional decision-making and reform efforts.
What You’ll Do
Lead the planning and delivery of responsive, evidence-based MHAOD and SEWB services.
Ensure services are coordinated, accessible, and achieve positive outcomes for consumers and carers.
Oversee clinical governance, resourcing, and continuous improvement across multidisciplinary teams.
Build strong partnerships with internal stakeholders, NGOs, ACCHOs, and Primary and Acute Care Services.
Drive regional engagement, business planning, and strategic reform in line with government health agendas.
Represent the region on key committees and inter-agency working groups.
Prepare high-level briefings, Cabinet submissions, Ministerial correspondence, and complex reports.
What You’ll Bring
A degree in a clinical discipline related to Mental Health and/or AOD /Current registration with Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia or eligible for same. Demonstrated contribution to the profession and/or specialty at local and national level (postgraduate qualifications desirable).
Deep understanding of contemporary mental health and SEWB frameworks and service models.
Proven strategic leadership experience in complex service environments, preferably within remote or cross-cultural contexts.
Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Strong knowledge of remote Aboriginal health service delivery, with cultural awareness and sensitivity.
Why Join Us
Play a key role in transformative health service delivery in the Northern Territory.
Collaborate with passionate and skilled teams across government and community sectors.
Be part of a leadership group influencing whole-of-region reform and cultural safety in care.
Enjoy the challenge and reward of working in one of Australia’s most unique cultural landscapes.
Located in Nhulunbuy you will conduct regular outreach visits to Groote Eylandt, to provide support to staff who are based on Island, and to meet with stakeholders as required.
Desirable
Master’s Degree, or equivalent, beyond entry to practice relevant to specialty area. Graduate Certificate in Management or equivalent.
