Disability Support Worker - Complex needs - Cranbourne & South East Melbourne

Location: Melbourne, VIC (Elwood and surrounding areas) & Cranbourne
Hours: Casual, set fortnightly roster (hours between 6:00 AM – 8:00 PM)

The Role
We’re seeking a mature, reliable Disability Support Worker to join our team, providing exceptional care to a client with complex, high-support needs in Melbourne. You’ll work a set fortnightly roster (6:00 AM – 8:00 PM) to deliver consistent, safe, and compassionate support, ensuring our client’s health and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 support to a client with complex needs, including seizure management (e.g., oral suction, medication administration) and personal care (e.g., hygiene, mobility).

Implement NDIS care plans with a focus on safety, dignity, and client goals.

Monitor and respond to medical emergencies, following trained protocols (e.g., seizure response).

Build trusting relationships with the client and their family, maintaining clear communication.

Document care activities accurately for NDIS compliance.

Work collaboratively with a small, dedicated team to ensure continuity.

Essential Requirements

Qualifications: Minimum Certificate IV in Disability, or current student in Nursing, Occupational Therapy, or Speech Pathology (2nd year or above).

Experience: Proven experience supporting clients with complex and high needs (e.g., epilepsy, neurological conditions, high physical support).

Skills:

Trained or willing to be trained in oral suction and seizure management (essential for client safety).

Strong observational and emergency response skills to manage medical risks.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for family engagement.

Attributes:

Mature and reliable, with a demonstrated ability to adhere to a set roster and respond promptly to client needs.

Calm under pressure, with a compassionate, person-centered approach.

Values-driven, with a personality fit for building trust with clients and families (e.g., patient, empathetic, professional).

Availability:

Able to commit to a set fortnightly roster with shifts between 6:00 AM – 8:00 PM, including some early mornings and evenings.

Compliance:

Valid NDIS Worker Screening Check, Working with Children Check, and First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain). Drivers License and access to a reliable vehicle.

Desirable

Experience with NDIS documentation and reporting.

Training in manual handling, seizure management, PEG feeding, and medication administration.

Familiarity with supporting young clients with intellectual and physical disabilities.
