About the role
Now is YOUR chance to shape the future and be part of a team of passionate, skilled specialists as a Family Drug & Alcohol Counsellor on a permanent, part time contract (4 days per week), based at our Fremantle Office.
Uniting WA ‘Attach Program’ provides a flexible (4-to-6-month) in-home counselling service, designed to support parents who live with problematic drug and alcohol use and have children aged 0-12 years. Working as a Family Drug & Alcohol Counsellor within our Strengthening Families pathway, you will be responsible for:
Conducting AOD therapeutic counselling and psychoeducation along with psychometric assessments
Assessing attachment between a parent and child and developing a therapeutic plan
Implementing clinical therapeutic interventions tailored to each client’s individual needs.
Maintaining awareness of co-morbidities associated with mental health and AOD and competence to be able to formulate interventions.

About you
To be successful you will require:
Outstanding interpersonal and counselling abilities, along with a high degree of reflexivity when working in a team.
Confidence to work in an outreach environment with potential conflict or high-risk situations with clients while implementing therapeutic interventions.
Knowledge to use a manualised intervention program – Parents Under Pressure.
Experience working with parents and a solid understanding of child protection issues, risk assessment, and safety planning.
Knowledge of the key issues associated with parental alcohol and other drug (AOD) use, such as parenting, family and domestic violence, mental health, trauma, and ruptured attachment.
Sound administrative and report writing skills and ability to document case notes.
You will also need:
Relevant Tertiary qualifications (e.g. Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling)
Minimum three years’ experience managing complex caseloads for clients presenting with challenging issues particularly around alcohol and other drug use.
Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Teams, Excel
To successfully complete a Parents Under Pressure Accreditation, supported by Uniting WA
National Police Clearance (dated within the last 6 months)
First Aid Certificate
Working with Children Check
Valid WA ‘C Class’ driver’s licence
