Cultural Practice Lead - Geraldton – Part-Time (0.6-1.0 FTE)

Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Cultural Practice Lead to support the cultural and clinical aspects of our work with Aboriginal families and other vulnerable groups in Geraldton, the Mid-West region and Western Australia. Although the preferred location is Geraldton, WA. We welcome applicants from around Western Australia if they have strong regional ties.

This is a unique opportunity to guide cultural safety, deliver therapeutic support, and build deep, meaningful connections with the community. You’ll also support the P2P team in embedding cultural practices across our growing service in regional areas and Perth metro.

This is a 0.6FTE to full-time, 12-month fixed term contract role. An allied health qualification and current registration are preferred but not essential, and demonstrate strong cultural knowledge, preferably connected to the Mid-West or Geraldton region.

Pregnancy to Parenthood (P2P) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting optimal infant and early childhood mental health while supporting parental wellbeing during the perinatal period (pregnancy to age three).

We provide clinical and home-based services in Metropolitan WA and Geraldton, offering a multi-pronged approach to care.

About the Role:

As our Cultural Practice Lead, your responsibilities will include:

Lead a process of listening, learning, and engagement with Elders, Aboriginal families, and community organisations to understand local strengths, needs, and preferences in supporting perinatal and infant mental health (PIMH).

Scope culturally safe, place-based models of care in collaboration with Aboriginal communities and services, which may include drop-in centres, community programs, or family-led initiatives.

Support the development of culturally responsive approaches within P2P by contributing Aboriginal perspectives to the adaptation or co-design of the P2P model.

Explore and understand the role of Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) and Aboriginal staff, including Aboriginal health workers and practitioners, in delivering perinatal and infant mental health care.

Build and strengthen relationships with Aboriginal organisations, services, and communities to support long-term collaboration and community-led service design.

Contribute to Aboriginal workforce development and cultural learning, including identifying opportunities for knowledge exchange, peer support, and reflective practice.

Participate in reflective supervision and cultural supervision, supporting ongoing learning and culturally grounded practice across the P2P team.

Advise on system-level enablers to support Aboriginal-led models of care in perinatal and infant mental health, including workforce, funding, and integration pathways.

Produce a comprehensive progress report at 6 months and 12 months, providing strategic insight, key learnings, and clear recommendations to guide how P2P can most effectively support Aboriginal families and partner with community services. These reports will inform Board-level decision-making on future directions.

About You:

You’re culturally grounded with strong connections to Aboriginal communities, ideally in Geraldton or the Mid-West. You build trust with ease, lead with humility, and are passionate about creating safe, culturally responsive spaces for families and community.

What You’ll Bring:

Tertiary qualification in a relevant field (e.g. social work, psychology, counselling, occupational therapy, nursing) – current registration with a professional body is preferred but not essential.

Lived experience or strong cultural connection to Aboriginal communities, ideally in Geraldton or the Mid-West.

Experience working in culturally safe, family-focused care.

Strong communication skills, including the ability to build trusted relationships and produce clear, well-structured reports.

Knowledge of, and commitment to, contemporary practices and policies that support Aboriginal families and communities.

Commitment to reflective practice, cultural humility, and ongoing cultural learning.

Current WA Driver’s Licence.

Desirable:

Experience working in or alongside Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs).

Established and respected relationships within Aboriginal communities, ideally supported by local Elders or community leaders.

Understanding of perinatal and infant mental health, or a strong willingness to learn.

Familiarity with the not-for-profit or community services sector.
