Join the Bluey’s World team as our new Technical Manager. We are expanding our team and looking for another Technical Manager to come on board and assist with our day to day technical operations! As the venue grows, we're looking for additional support for our busy technical team.
The Technical Manager oversees the implementation and day-to-day operations of all technical systems for Bluey's World. Working in coordination with the Production Operations Manager, this role leads the technical department in executing established technical strategies and standards. You will manage the technical team to ensure consistent, high-quality experiences seven days a week while maintaining the technical integrity of the production.
This position requires strong technical knowledge, solid operational leadership capabilities and excellent team management skills. You will coordinate daily technical operations, maintain established performance standards, and ensure all technical elements operate safely, efficiently, and reliably, while implementing the technical vision established by the Technical Director.
Rate of pay: $88,500 per annum.

Technical Manager - Bluey's World

Reporting to: Production Manager(s), Technical Director, General Manager
Key Collaborators: Production Operations Manager, Remote Production Manager(s), Site Manager, Venue Operations Manager, Experience Manager

Position Summary
The Technical Manager oversees the day-to-day implementation and operations of all technical systems for Bluey's World. Working alongside the Production Operations Manager as a peer, you will lead the technical department in executing established technical strategies and standards.
Together, you will ensure comprehensive technical oversight under the guidance of the Technical Production Manager and Technical Director.
Working Relationship with Production Operations Manager
The Technical Manager and Production Operations Manager are peer positions reporting to the Production Manager(s), with complementary responsibilities:
The Production Operations Manager supports you by:
· Developing strategic budget plans and managing major spending decisions
· Coordinating high-level project planning with other departments
· Managing upward stakeholder relationships and executive reporting
· Facilitating cross-departmental planning and integration strategies
· Handling administrative and strategic planning tasks to free you for operational focus
You support the Production Operations Manager by:
· Providing operational input and feasibility feedback on strategic plans
· Implementing the strategies and plans developed together
· Delivering real-time operational data and status updates
· Executing cross-departmental integration at the operational level
· Ensuring technical excellence in all implemented solutions
You collaborate on:
· Developing implementation strategies for new projects
· Budget planning (they plan, you execute and track)
· Project delivery approaches
· Problem-solving complex technical challenges
· Continuous improvement initiatives
Primary Responsibilities
Day-to-Day Operations Management
Lead daily technical operations across all systems and venues
Manage real-time troubleshooting and technical problem resolution
Oversee show quality and technical performance standards
Coordinate maintenance schedules and dark day activities
Ensure operational continuity between shifts and teams
Team Leadership & Development
Directly manage all technical team members and their performance
Set clear expectations for the Technical 2IC and Systems Specialist
Conduct team briefings, assign tasks, and address issues in real-time
Provide ongoing training and skills development
Manage rosters, scheduling, and team coverage
Foster a positive, collaborative team environment
Technical Implementation & Integration
Lead hands-on system architecture and technical integration work
Execute technical installations and system upgrades
Execute show programming updates and seasonal modifications
Integrate new show elements with existing technical infrastructure
Lead technical rehearsals for show changes
Implement testing and verification protocols
Maintain system redundancies and backup protocols
Apply technical specifications and standards
Budget & Administrative Management
· Execute budget plans developed with the Production Operations Manager
· Track day-to-day operational expenses and maintain budget compliance
· Manage inventory, requisitions, and consumables
Maintain all technical documentation, logs, and reports
Ensure WHS compliance and safety protocols
Complete incident reporting and compliance documentation
Schedule Technical staff
Process timesheets and leave requests
Track leave and availability
Monitor overtime and additional hours
Coordinate training schedules
Cross-Departmental Coordination
· Implement integration plans developed with the Production Operations Manager
· Coordinate with other department managers on daily operations
Manage vendor and contractor relationships at operational level
Provide technical support to other departments as needed
Maintain communication between technical teams and shifts
Specific Operational Responsibilities
Venue-Wide Technical Systems Management
Oversee all venue-wide technical systems beyond show-specific equipment
Delegate day-to-day venue systems support to Technical 2IC for coordination
Rely on Systems Specialist for technical standards and troubleshooting
Manage Point of Sale systems, ticketing infrastructure, retail technology
Maintain GoPhoto towers and photo processing equipment
Coordinate networking, Wi-Fi, and connectivity systems
Ensure CCTV and security system operations
Manage 2-way radio systems and performer equipment
Supervise venue lighting and electrical infrastructure
Quality Control & Performance Standards
Apply quality control processes for all technical elements
Monitor performance metrics and operational KPIs
Implement troubleshooting protocols and escalation procedures
Execute preventative maintenance programs
Maintain operational redundancies for critical systems
Ensure consistent show quality across all performances
Documentation & Reporting
Complete daily technical logs and maintenance records
Document all technical issues, solutions, and workarounds
Provide shift handover information
Submit operational reports to management
Maintain equipment status records
Track consumables and inventory usage
Ensure all documentation is current and accessible
Project Implementation
Collaborate with Production Operations Manager on project strategies
Lead hands-on implementation and delivery of technical projects
Coordinate Technical 2IC and Systems Specialist for project execution
Implement seasonal show variations and content updates
Coordinate testing periods for new show elements
Apply testing and commissioning protocols
Follow verification procedures for specifications
Conduct post-implementation reviews
Dark Day & Maintenance Management
Execute comprehensive maintenance schedules
Delegate maintenance planning to Systems Specialist for technical requirements
Task Technical 2IC with staff coordination and logistics
Verify quality of completed maintenance work
Liaise with external contractors as needed
Implement preventative maintenance programs
Show Updates & Seasonal Implementation
· Lead technical implementation of show updates and seasonal variations
· Coordinate with creative teams to execute new show versions
· Test and commission new show elements before public launch
· Manage technical rehearsals for cast with updated show elements
· Ensure smooth transition between show versions with minimal downtime
· Document changes to show elements for operational consistency
· Train technical team on new show sequences and effects
· Collaborate with Production Operations Manager on update timelines
· Verify all safety protocols for new show elements
Key Selection Criteria
Essential Skills & Experience:
Proven experience managing technical teams in entertainment or events
Strong hands-on technical knowledge across lighting, sound, video, and show control
Demonstrated ability to balance operational management with technical work
Experience with venue operations and 7-day-a-week schedules
Excellent team leadership and communication skills
Strong organisational and documentation abilities
Practical understanding of WHS requirements
Ability to work collaboratively with peer managers
Experience delegating effectively while maintaining accountability
Technical Competencies:
Advanced knowledge of show control systems and integration
Experience with venue-wide technical infrastructure
Understanding of preventative maintenance programs
Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues
Knowledge of industry safety standards and compliance
