The Opportunity

The City of Perth is seeking two highly skilled and motivated Economic Development Principals to lead key streams of our economic growth strategy:

  • Business Support & Development
  • Economic Diversification & Promotion

Economic Development Principal (Business Support & Development)

In this role, you will coordinate and enhance the City’s engagement with Perth’s business community, property owners, and external stakeholders to deliver a professional, client-focused service that supports sustainable economic outcomes.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and deliver business support and development initiatives across the City.
  • Coordinate a concierge program to help businesses navigate local regulations and thrive.
  • Build partnerships to activate vacant spaces and attract investment.
  • Prepare strategic reports on precinct performance, economic trends, and City initiatives.

Economic Development Principal (Economic Diversification & Promotion)

In this role, you will lead efforts to attract strategic investment, grow knowledge-intensive sectors, and promote economic diversification across the City’s geographic area.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and delivery of investment attraction and target sector growth plans.
  • Promote Perth’s economic narrative through data, analysis, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Manage the City’s economic data and reporting function to drive evidence-based decision making.
  • Build and maintain high-value partnerships to support long-term economic outcomes.

About You

To be successful in either role, you will have:

  • Demonstrated experience leading economic development, business support, or investment attraction initiatives in complex environments.
  • Strong ability to influence outcomes and manage high-value stakeholder relationships across sectors.
  • Excellent skills in strategic reporting, economic data analysis, and communicating economic insights.
  • Leadership capabilities, including staff supervision and cross-disciplinary project management.
