In-House Legal Counsel – Employment & Industrial Relations

Open to Sydney, Newcastle or Brisbane

The Opportunity

We're seeking an experienced Legal Counsel- WPR's professional to join a high-performing legal team within a prominent heavy industry client. This position is ideal for either an experienced or less experienced legal professional looking to grow, as mentorship is available.

You'll be part of a supportive, outcomes-focused team, led by an exceptional Head of WPR who genuinely invests in their team.

Flexible working environment with a generous split of work-from-home and office days.

Potential for a 4-day work week for the right candidate.

Salary: $150,000 - $230,000 + super.

What You'll Be Doing

This role has a strong Industrial Relations (IR) focus with exposure to Employment Relations (ER):

Industrial Relations: Lead and participate in enterprise agreement (EA) negotiations nationally. If you have less experience in this area, mentorship will be provided.

Employment Relations: Manage a low volume of escalated ER matters (e.g., unfair dismissals, general protections claims), working closely with ER advisors and HRBPs who handle initial cases.

Strategic Advisory: Provide practical, commercially focused legal advice to HR and operational leaders.

Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

What We're Looking For

An admitted Legal Practitioner with solid Workplace Relations Relations (WPR) experience.

A genuine interest in industrial relations and enterprise bargaining, with a willingness to engage directly in negotiations.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to provide pragmatic advice.

Flexibility for occasional travel for EA negotiations (national)

Ideally based in Sydney, Brisbane, or Newcastle.
