About the position:
The City has a unique and exciting opportunity available for an experienced Planner to join our Statutory Planning team.
This recruitment pool registers expressions of interest from experienced Planners for a two year full-time Fixed Term Contract opportunity to cover a period of leave, with a flexible commencement date from November 2025.
The successful candidate will support the coordination of the City’s statutory planning area ensuring the City’s obligations and functions are carried out in a professional and efficient manner. The incumbent will also support the assessment and processing of development applications as well as provide high level customer support for enquiries relating to zoning, subdivision and development/use of land.
Key accountabilities:
Process statutory town planning applications in accordance with the provisions of the Local Planning Schemes and policies and in compliance with relevant statutory requirements.
Attend Council and/or Committee meetings as required by the Coordinator Statutory Planning, Manager City Growth or Director Development Services and prepare and review reports for Council consideration.
Implement Council resolutions and provide regular reports to the Coordinator Statutory Planning on progress of action.
Assist and contribute towards the identification, development, implementation and review of guidelines, policies and procedures in relation to statutory planning.
Assist the Coordinator Statutory Planning in overseeing the development of the Statutory Planning Team through mentoring, training and professional development.

Position requirements:
Qualified planners will hold a degree in Town Planning (or related field) with relevant experience suited to the Senior Statutory Planner role. Candidates should have extensive experience in town planning in a senior leadership role, including experience with complex statutory planning applications. Further, the ideal candidate will have comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and principles within Western Australia, an ability to research, interpret and provide advice on legislation, and high level written reporting skills.
Completion of a pre-employment medical including alcohol and other substances testing is required of all positions at the City.
Remuneration and benefits:
The Senior Statutory Planner position has a salary starting from $117,477 per annum dependent on the knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
