Key Duties:
- Follow technical drawings and specifications to assemble and install machinery and equipment.
- Ensure proper alignment, fit, and function of components.
- Conduct routine inspections, lubrication, and preventive maintenance.
- Identify and address potential issues before they escalate into major problems.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and determine necessary repairs.
- Replace or repair damaged or worn components.
- Test repaired equipment to ensure it operates correctly.
- Create custom parts using welding, cutting, and machining techniques.
- Follow safety protocols and ensure work complies with industry standards.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Operate specialised tools and machinery.
- Interpret diagrams, drawings, specifications, and plans.
- Use precision measuring instruments.
- May erect machines and equipment.

Skills & Experience:
- Mechanical Trade Certificate.
- Proficient in interpreting and applying technical drawings.
- Prior experience in locomotive freight maintenance or related service activities (highly regarded).
- Background in heavy maintenance, diesel systems, or power generation environments (highly regarded).
- Capable of working independently while contributing effectively as a hands-on team member.
- Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise workloads, adapt to changing circumstances, and take initiative with a proactive and resourceful mindset.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate within a team environment.
- Willingness and commitment to ongoing learning and skills development through additional training.
- Preferably, understanding of diesel/electric locomotive engines and associated equipment.
