Currently, there are around 5.5 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 717,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.
A new role awaits
The External Review Branch sits in the Reviews and Information Release Division in the NDIA and are looking to fill multiple APS6 Case Manager vacancies in the Branch.
The External Review Branch manages all external review applications lodged with the Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) and aims to improve the experience of current and prospective participants in the NDIA by resolving disputes in a timely and consistent manner.

Duties include:
- Maintaining a considerable level of contact with internal and external stakeholders, providing detailed technical, professional, policy, operational support and advice in relation to complex, difficult or sensitive issues.
- Undertaking end to end case management activities, with appropriate line manager input and oversight.
- Resolving matters through case management of ART applications in relation to reviewable decisions in section 100 of the NDIS Act 2013, including NDIS plan and access decisions.
- Undertaking case management of complex ART matters, undertaking analysis and developing options for early resolution.
- Obtaining necessary information and advice for the effective resolution of ART matters.
- Applying alternate dispute resolution methods and advocacy skills, resolving applications and reviews, in keeping with the model litigant principles.
- Attending Case Conferences, Conciliations and Hearings conducted by the ART.
- Preparing documents detailing resolution options and outcomes at Case Management meetings.
- Assessing and responding in priority and risk matters, including risk that impact the participant, Scheme sustainability and the NDIA.
- Preparing and building participant plans to reflect funded supports.

What we’re looking for in our ideal candidate:
- Extensive experience in one of more of the following fields; the disability sector, dispute resolution and mediation, legal processes, case management, or a therapeutic background.
- Demonstrated ability to think critically and make informed decisions in an efficient manner.
- Highly developed stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to partner with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to engage in complex problem solving and issues management.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including the writing of executive briefs.
- Demonstrated ability to work well within teams to meet tight tribunal deadlines.
- Ability to manage a portfolio of complex and sensitive matters, and to assess and respond to changing priorities.

While this role is ideally performed from Deakin - ACT, Adelaide - SA, Brisbane - QLD, Geelong & Richmond - VIC, WA - Perth and Surry Hills & Parramatta - NSW, remote working arrangements may be considered. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.
Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
