About the position

Due to exponential growth and demand for clean energy, our client is seeking experienced pre-contract commercial managers to support the business growth. Our client owns and operates three regulated networks: electricity distribution, gas distribution, and the state-wide electricity transmission network. This role will suit a pre-contracts commercial manager with experience working in a high-volume, high-value, fast-paced environment, which will see you provide expert commercial and contract support and guidance to the pre-contracts bid team and delivery teams across various high-volume contracts and projects. With strong process and governance systems in place, the key for this role is the ability to identify commercial risks and opportunities to ensure the business delivers profitable work.

Duties and responsibilities:

Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, the pre-contracts team, legal counsel, and contractors.

Undertake pre-contract reviews to identify risk and mitigation strategies, including qualifications and clause changes.

Negotiate new contract terms and manage contract approval and execution.

Manage the development and implementation of subcontractor and supplier agreements.

Support delivery teams in contract administration, commercial strategies, variations, negotiations, and disputes.

Identify and monitor key commercial risks and opportunities.

Coach and mentor bid and delivery teams on commercial acumen and commercial strategies.

To be successful, you will have the following:

You will have a tertiary qualification in engineering, construction, business, legal, or finance accompanied by 7+ years of experience as a pre-contracts commercial manager, preferably in a construction or infrastructure environment.

Strong ability to analyse contracts, identify commercial risk, and take action to ensure profitability across the business.

Demonstrated ability to work independently to organise and prioritise demands, handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously, set and meet deadlines, and follow through within a fast-paced environment with multiple and competing demands.

Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.

Demonstrable experience in effective change management
