About the role

This role of the Intake worker is responsible for providing specialist cultural advise to Child Protection in respects of all reports regarding the alleged abuse of Aboriginal Children and Young People.

The role will provide independent advice which informs the assessment and planning undertaken by Child Protection at the point of Intake which includes advice on the importance of strong connection to Aboriginal culture, community and family when making decisions in the best interest of the child.

The role will be required to participate in the Lakidjeka After hours roster as needed.

About You

  • Commitment and understanding for the values that underpin VACCA’ vision and purpose
  • A recognised Diploma of Community Services Work, or similar discipline/framework with demonstrated industry experience in working with Aboriginal families in community
  • Experience in working and engaging with Aboriginal families and children.
  • Demonstrated experience in the child and family sector
  • Demonstrated experience and ability when dealing with stakeholders and clients in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Capacity to gather information and develop risk assessments
  • The capacity to engage Child Protection workers and to develop good working relationships
  • Ability to participate in the After-Hours Intake roster
  • Requirements: Valid Police Check, a Working with Children’s Check for a paid employee (or willingness to obtain) and a Victorian Driver Licence. Current COVID-19 vaccination (Strongly Recommended)
