An opportunity now exists for a First Nations Programs Lead to join the SAFC team. This is an Identified position and only open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. The SAFC considers that being Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement for this position under sub-s 56(2) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (SA).
About the Role:
This role will lead and support programs that increase First Nations participation in the South Australian screen industry. You will build networks with First Nations practitioners, provide advice and support to applicants, and help deliver funding and industry development programs aligned with the SAFC’s First Nations Screen Strategy. You will also support the coordination of the First Nations co-working hub, manage committee meetings, and engage with partners to advance opportunities for First Nations creatives and crew.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver initiatives under the SAFC Business Plan and First Nations Screen Strategy, in alignment with the SAFC Strategic Plan.
- Build and maintain networks with First Nations communities and screen practitioners.
- Act as a key contact for First Nations screen industry clients and applicants.
- Support SAFC engagement and networking with new First Nations talent.
- Coordinate use of the Pirrku Kuu Hub First Nations co-working space.
- Support funding program delivery and industry development initiatives.
- Manage committee meetings and the SAFC’s First Nations Advisory Group.
- Gather feedback and provide insights to support sector development.
- Champion inclusive, culturally safe practices across all program delivery.
About You:
You are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person with a commitment to supporting First Nations voices in the screen industry. You bring experience working with First Nations communities and practitioners, along with the ability to build strong, respectful relationships. You are organised, able to manage programs and committee processes, and confident in providing advice and support to creatives and industry partners. You understand the importance of cultural safety and community-led decision-making and are ready to contribute to a more inclusive and vibrant screen sector in South Australia.
Skills & Experience:
- Experience working with First Nations screen practitioners.
- Ability to provide accurate advice and support to stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills and experience in program delivery.
- Experience in developing industry networks and managing committees.
- Understanding of the screen industry and its development context.
- Commitment to cultural safety, diversity, and inclusive practices.
