The City of Melbourne’s Community and City Services Division is dedicated to making Melbourne a liveable, healthy, and vibrant city for everyone. With people, families, and community at the heart of everything we do, we aim to meet the needs of a diverse and growing population.

We are seeking an experienced Active Experience Team Leader to join the team at Melbourne City Baths — an iconic fitness and wellbeing centre located in the heart of the city.
This leadership role is responsible for overseeing gym and personal training services, with a strong focus on delivering exceptional customer experiences, driving community engagement, and supporting member retention. The role manages a team of fitness instructors, coordinates leaseholders, and works closely with other leaders to deliver high-quality, inclusive programs that support lifelong wellbeing.
Key responsibilities include:
Staff leadership
Budget management
Supporting the delivery of the Active Melbourne Plan, and contributing to operational excellence through hands-on involvement.
Close collaboration with the Guest Experience and Group Exercise Team Leaders is essential to ensure a seamless customer journey.
The successful candidate will bring strong leadership aligned with the values of inclusion, respect, collaboration, and performance. Demonstrated experience in managing gym and personal training services, alongside excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, is essential.
This role also requires experience in delivering inclusive and culturally responsive services, along with confidence in financial oversight, reporting, and service planning. Engaging with the community and stakeholders to co-design meaningful programs and partnerships is a key focus of this role.
All CoM employees will demonstrate an ability to articulate and demonstrate benefits of positive culture and values.
In addition, the position will require:
Implement, monitor and promote health and fitness programs, services and facilities that deliver a high-quality customer experience and meet desired retention outcomes
Oversee the personal training program and management of personal training staff, including the acquisition and management of lease holders
Manage the service area budgets and undertake monthly reporting and review of budgets, services and programs in consultation with Melbourne City Baths Manager
Deliver inclusive and accessible facilities, services and programs to support all people to actively participate
Regularly perform operational direct service shifts that may include duties such as gym instructing, duty supervising and lifeguarding as part of the regular roster
