KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Care for Children
a) Where appropriate, provide support and advice to the Team Leaders and Educators regarding the development and evaluation of their curriculums.
b) Ensure all interactions with children reflect the philosophy and policies of the service and the principles of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF).
c) Be an advocate for children’s rights, interests, and overall safety and wellbeing in all aspects of the program and service delivery.
d) Act in the Team Leader role in their absence to ensure appropriate coverage as requested by the Service Manager, while maintaining a safe and nurturing environment for all children.
2. Health, Safety and Protective Care
a) Ensure the environment in which children learn and play is safe, clean and hygienic.
b) Act immediately on any Health and Safety issues that relate to the working environment.
c) As the Work Health & Safety Representative appointed by the employer, to report on all work, health and safety issues and implement actions in line with policies and procedures.
d) Be responsible for and implement the Work Health & Safety program for the Service.
e) Respond to illness, accidents and emergencies in accordance with services Policy and Government regulations.
3. Partnership with Families & Communities
a) Be sensitive to and respect the diversity of social and cultural backgrounds of enrolled children and ensure these children are supported to develop a sense of belonging into the service.
b) Liaise and interact with families in a friendly and non-judgmental way in relation to their child’s learning and interests.
c) Promote and support family involvement in the curriculum.
d) To engage in community development activities.
4. Leadership
a) As part of the Service Management Team provide positive leadership and direction to all Service staff.
b) Maintain a professional approach to work, which reflects the services philosophy, policies and procedures and ensures confidentiality in all aspects of Service operations.
c) Support the Service’s student placement program within Play & Learns guidelines and act as mentor to trainees.
d) Support Team Leaders and Service Manager to ensure Performance Development Plans are completed to a high quality standard and within the agreed timeframe.
5. Operational Management
a) As the services Educational Leader, you will provide support to the Educators to ensure curriculums are developed and implemented.
b) To manage the Service in the Service Manager’s absence. Keep the Service Manager informed about the Service’s functioning on an ongoing basis.
c) Actively promote the business in a positive manner to the community.
d) Assist the Service Manager with the administration of the Service as required.
e) Maintain confidentiality at all times.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
Essential
Diploma of Early Childhood Education & Care or an approved equivalent qualification
Current HLTAID012 – Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting
Anaphylaxis Certificate – ASCIA e-training*
ASCIA food allergy e-training*
Food Safe Certificate*
Mandatory Reporting (Child Protection) Certificate*
Protective Behaviour Certificate*
Current Working with Children card*
Medical Certificate*
National Police Certificate*
Alcohol and Illegal substance clearance*
Knowledge of Government Regulations
Proven skills in the development and implementation EYLF
Knowledge and abilities to implement National Quality Standards (NQS)
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively within a team environment
Experience in supervising staff
Computer software knowledge
Proven skills in the Management & Professional development of a team
Those indicated with * can be obtained on successfully gaining a position of employment
Desirable
Diploma of Business Management.
Knowledge of sector challenges, including experience working together with peak organisations.
