The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking a General Manager to provide a critical role within Security and Emergency Services Group.
About the Business Unit
Corrections Victoria is a business unit of the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). Corrections Victoria's vision is ‘Safer prisons, safer people, safer communities'. The SESG provides high-level support to all areas of Corrections Victoria (CV) and private prisons through its service delivery and ongoing policy commitment. SESG is responsible for providing immediate and longer-term support through its diverse portfolios such as emergency and incident response, High Security Escort of prisoners, state-wide training services, barrier control, search and canine services and management of firearms.
About the Role
Reporting to the Assistant Commissioner Security and Intelligence Division, the General Manager of the SESG leads and oversees all aspects of the SESG. This includes business planning and strategic leadership, leading service excellence, objective setting, performance monitoring, implementation of Departmental/Corrections Victoria policies and development, enhancement and co-ordination. The General Manager is also responsible for management of resources including budget, finances and staff.
The General Manager SESG will have a detailed understanding of the required operating environment for SESG such as Prisons, Community Correctional Services, Post Sentence Branch and Youth justice and their legislative requirements and authorisations. Provide authoritative and expert technical and strategic advice to the Assistant Commissioner Security and Intelligence, the Commissioner Corrections Victoria and the Department of Justice and Community Safety on complex and/or state-wide issues. The General Manager SESG must also represent Corrections Victoria in local, national and international forums and maintain liaison with stakeholders, interstate jurisdictions, local authorities and community groups.
Some of your duties will include:
- Develop, implement, and manage all aspects of the strategic and day to day operations of the Security and Emergency Services Group.
- Provides authoritative, expert, professional, technical and strategic advice to Executive Management and the Minister on complex and/or state-wide issues, policies, procedures, guidelines and standards
- Identify and resolve complex and sensitive issues as they arise, consulting and negotiating with senior stakeholders to resolve differences and gain agreement or commitment to projects with a focus on service excellence.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Possesses high-level expertise of security management in a correctional setting.
- A sound understanding of intelligence functions in a correctional setting.
- The ability to manage complex change projects and service improvement initiatives.
- Financial management experience and the ability to deliver required outcomes within budget.
Qualifications/requirements
- There are no mandatory qualifications for this role, however qualifications in a relevant discipline are desirable.
- A current Victorian driver's licence is required.
