You will be joining a division of a large social policy agency delivering social policy reform that improves outcomes for Australians experiencing or at risk of health or social wellbeing issues
Their work focuses on building a more connected, effective, and accessible health system one that supports people to get the right care, in the right way, at the right time.
The team owns critical health datasets and supports the evidence base that underpins policy, investment, and reform at scale.
The Opportunity
This is a newly created APS6 contract running from August 2025 to June 2026 (with 12 + 12-month extension options), established to meet growing demand across policy, evaluation, and data reporting projects.
You’ll work with a clean, structured dataset used to monitor service access and guide policy reform.
You’ll join a small, collaborative team of six, combining data analysis, policy expertise, and generalist public service skills. The culture is respectful, supportive, and values flexibility, work-life balance, and diverse perspectives.
This role suits someone who enjoys turning data into practical insights and supporting decision-makers through reporting, dashboards, and written analysis. You’ll work across technical and non-technical audiences to help shape how mental health services are evaluated and improved.
The Role
- Analyse and interpret structured data to inform program and policy decisions
- Build dashboards and data visualisations using Power BI
- Translate findings into accessible briefings, reports, and presentations
The Ideal Person
You’re a clear communicator and hands-on analyst who enjoys turning data into insights that support informed policy decisions and reporting requirements.
You bring strong skills in data interpretation and visualisation, with the ability to explain technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.
You’re experienced in navigating tight timeframes and shifting priorities typical of an APS policy environment.
You’ll have
- Demonstrated experience working with structured data and drawing out insights
- Very good Power BI skills for analysis and dashboard development (or Tableau, QLIK with the ability to learn Power BI)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities and contribute to a small, collaborative team
- Understanding of public sector data or social policy context
Australian Citizenship and an existing Baseline clearance or above is mandatory.
Salary / Rate
This role is an APS6 equivalent with a proposed guideline for rates of $60/hr - $75/hr + 12% Super based on your skills and experience.
