About this opportunity:

As a Principal Development Engineer, you will contribute to urban planning and development within our community. Working with limited direction, you will assess the engineering aspects of complex and regionally significant development applications. Your role will ensure timely and consistent processing of applications, while maintaining the quality of the Council's donated assets. Applicants with 5+ years of experience are encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership:

  • Promote a team culture focused on delivering customer experiences to both the community and the development industry.
  • Lead and manage a team of engineering and technical staff, providing mentorship and leadership.

Technical:

  • Assess and determine regionally significant and complex development applications, offering written and verbal advice to developers, Councillors, and the public, and liaising with Council departments and statutory authorities.
  • Oversee the preliminary review and allocation of applications and referrals for assessment, and review the assessment of operational works applications. Ensure consistency and quality in the work of Engineering and Technical Officers.

Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or a related field.
  • QLD "C" Class Driver's Licence or interstate equivalent.
  • Strong civil engineering and infrastructure expertise.
  • Familiarity with Queensland planning legislation and local government processes.
  • Leadership, interpersonal skills, and extensive experience in complex project assessment and town planning.

  • Base annual salary of $113,211.80 + Applicable Allowances
  • Up to 18% superannuation (conditions apply).
  • Choice of 4 or 5 weeks' annual leave with 17.5% leave loading.
