The Role
The position is responsible for leading the financial accounting function at TasWater. This includes ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards and relevant taxation legislation. The role plays a key part in supporting the organisation’s strategic and operational decision-making by providing high-quality financial information and insights.
As a senior leader within the Finance team, the incumbent will drive continuous improvement and innovation in financial accounting processes and systems, ensuring they are robust, efficient, and scalable.
Oversee end of month accounting and reconciliation processes and end of year financial reporting obligations.
Oversee the preparation and submission of all tax-related obligations including GST, FBT, payroll tax, and income tax.
Identify and implement opportunities to improve accounting systems, processes, and internal controls.
Lead, mentor, and develop team members, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

What we're looking for
We’re seeking a strategic and detail-oriented finance professional with strong leadership capabilities and a passion for continuous improvement. You will bring deep technical expertise in financial accounting, a thorough understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements, and the ability to translate complex financial data into meaningful insights.
Your proven ability to lead high-performing teams, drive process improvements, and communicate effectively across all levels of the organisation will be key to your success in this role. A collaborative mindset, sound judgement, and commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes will ensure you thrive in a dynamic and purpose-driven environment like TasWater.
Degree in relevant discipline such as Accounting, Business or Commerce
Minimum of 5+ years experience within a similar role
Strong understanding of Australian Accounting Standards and taxation requirements
Demonstrated strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and guide high-performing teams, communicate complex financial concepts clearly to diverse audiences, influence senior stakeholders, and foster collaboration across the organisation.

The Details
This role can be based in either Hobart, Launceston, or Devonport and attracts a salary of $125,015 -$138,905 (inclusive of superannuation), negotiable dependent on experience.
