We have an excellent opportunity for a skilled and dedicated Family Support Worker/Youth Worker to join our team to work in the Albany region, servicing Denmark and Mt Barker.
Work days are: Tuesday's and Thursday’s
Level: 3.1 SCHADS Award
Fraction: 0.4 FTE
Gorenang Moortabiin (Gorenang Moortabiin Aboriginal Engagement and Community Development Aboriginal Corporation - GMAECD) is an Aboriginal-Controlled Community Organisation that works primarily in Goreng and Menang country in Western Australia. Gorenang Moortabiin is focused on delivering culturally secure services and cultural brokerage through work with families and community in our region.

About you
The Family Support Worker/Youth Worker will hold a relevant tertiary Degree and or Diploma in Community services (or similar) and/or relevant and equivalent demonstrated skills and experience.
You will be a person who:

demonstrated experience working effectively with diverse families, and
will enjoy working with a diverse and dynamic client group
has demonstrated experience working successfully in cross-cultural contexts with Aboriginal youth and families, where mutually agreed outcomes have been achieved
has knowledge of child development, the impact of trauma and experience in applying this knowledge when working with challenging behaviours
has demonstrated case management and reporting skills and experience
understands child safety
The Role
The position requires the successful candidate to work with young people and their families within the Target 120 program. The Target 120 program is an across-government strategy to holistically support young people at risk of becoming repeat offenders to take a different trajectory that reduces recidivism and improves life outcomes.
The Target 120 program requires that the Gorenang Moortabiin Family Support Worker/Youth Worker works in a collaborative way to engage with the young people and their families as identified by the program. This will involve establishing trusting and supportive relationships, providing intensive family-based support, mentoring and assistance and coordinating the Youth Mentors employed within the program.

Job Description: Family Support Worker /Youth Worker– Target 120 – Albany
Essential criteria
Demonstrated experience working successfully in cross-cultural contexts with Aboriginal youth and families to achieve mutually agreed outcomes.
High-level organisational skills, demonstrating self-direction, initiative, working to deadlines and fulfilling reporting requirements.
High-level written and communication skills including liaising, negotiating and advocating in a case management context.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others and effectively lead a team or work group.
Demonstrated ability to effectively apply knowledge of child development and the impact of trauma when working with challenging behaviours in young people and families.
Able to develop and deliver appropriate and responsive services and/or programs to clients and families.
Experience in undertaking multi-faceted risk assessment in a service delivery context, to ensure safety of self and others.
Strong knowledge and skills of ICT.
Desirable
Previous experience working within the child protection context.
Experience in operating relevant ICT data entry systems (ie Department of Communities CMS data entry system).
The successful candidate will also need to provide:
satisfactory current National Police Clearance
a current Working with Children Card
an unrestricted C Class Driver’s Licence,
a current First Aid Certificate
