Employment Type:

12 month contract with the potential for ongoing employment, subject to performance and organisational requirements.

Hours:
12-hour shifts on a rotating roster:

Day shift: 7:00am to 7:00pm

Night shift: 7:00pm to 7:00am (inactive hours between 11:00pm and 6:30am)

About Calvary Youth Services Mandurah Inc.

Calvary Youth Services Mandurah Inc. is a not-for-profit, faith-based organisation providing crisis and transitional accommodation, support, and case management to young people aged 15–25 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Purpose of the Role
The Youth Support Worker plays a key role in supporting young people experiencing crisis by providing safe and stable accommodation in a structured environment. Through a trauma-informed and client-centred approach, the role focuses on empowering young people to strengthen their resilience, promote independence and build practical life skills to achieve greater stability—helping to reduce the likelihood of future homelessness.

Key Responsibilities

Client Support & Case Coordination

Conduct intake, assessment, and risk/safety planning in accordance with agency policies and service standards.

Assist in the development and implementation of individualised support plans.

Promote independence by supporting young people in life skills such as cooking, cleaning, budgeting, and daily routines to increase young people’s capacity and reduce the risk of future homelessness .

Facilitate access to external services and supports through networking opportunities and appropriate referrals and advocacy.

Encourage engagement in positive activities including recreation, education, and employment preparation.

House Operations

Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming living environment.

Carry out daily operational tasks including shift handovers, incident reporting, and adherence to safety protocols in line with the agency's ‘Daily Routine’ guidelines

Respond appropriately to crisis or emergency situations, maintaining a calm and supportive presence.

Teamwork & Reporting

Reporting directly to the Manager

Work collaboratively with the broader team, including the Case Manager and DESS Worker.

Maintain accurate records and documentation, including case notes, incident reports, and client data using the SHIP platform.

Participate in staff meetings, supervision, training, and professional development activities.

Selection Criteria

Qualifications & Requirements

Minimum Diploma in Youth Work, Community Services, or relevant discipline.

Valid Working with Children Check (WWCC)

National Police Clearance

First Aid Certificate

Current WA Driver’s Licence.

Experience & Knowledge

Minimum 12 months’ experience as a youth worker in a crisis accommodation residential setting.

Strong knowledge and understanding of the issues faced by at-risk and homeless young people.

Experience and understanding of Trauma-Informed Care, Child Safe practices, and relevant legislation.

Cultural competency and commitment to working with diverse populations including CALD, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, and LGBTQIA+ young people.

Knowledge of community support services and referral pathways and networks.

Strong organisational and time management capabilities, with the ability to prioritise effectively.

Able to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.

Confident using computers, case management systems, general administrative tools and Microsoft Office software.

Skilled in writing clear, comprehensive case notes and documentation.

Open to feedback and committed to continuous service improvement.

Proactive, reliable, and able to use initiative and sound judgment in a dynamic work environment.
