The Department:
This independent federal agency is responsible for managing one of Australia's most complex and significant water systems. Its role includes fostering transparency and public trust in how water resources are shared and protected, balancing environmental, community and economic needs across a vast and diverse region.
The Role:
Join a small but mighty federal agency undergoing a comms branch transformation – shifting to an account management model that gives communicators real influence, ownership and visibility. If you've worked in a large department and want to see the benefits of this model applied in a more nimble and responsive environment, this could be the ideal next step.
We’re seeking two experienced communications professionals with a strong foundation in strategic content and stakeholder engagement, as well as proven media skills – including writing media releases, managing issues, and coordinating monitoring and reporting.
This role can be based in the following office locations:
- Adelaide – Kaurna
- Canberra – Ngunnawal
- Goondiwindi – Bigambul
- Griffith – Wiradjuri
- Mildura – Latji Latji
- Murray Bridge – Ngarrindjeri
- Wodonga – Dhudhuroa
Please note this Department offers a flexible working arrangement and part of your working week can be worked from home. This is not a remote working role and you must be able to attend the office for part of your week (2 to 3 days).
In this role, you’ll:
- Plan and deliver communication initiatives that support strategic priorities
- Shape narratives through compelling content and consistent messaging across channels
- Liaise with internal stakeholders to align messaging and engagement
- Lead media liaison, draft releases, and contribute to issues and risk management
- Apply editorial best practice and contribute to cross-platform content planning
To thrive here, you’ll need:
- Excellent written communication and media experience (not negotiable)
- Strong stakeholder engagement and strategic comms capability
- The ability to manage competing priorities with autonomy
- An understanding of public sector comms, or the capacity to learn quickly
