The Head Chef at Mi Scusi Food, a high-end Perth-based catering company known for bold menus, sharp execution, and standout service, leads the kitchen team across all catering operations—both in-house and off-site. This senior role oversees the highest standards in food quality, presentation, organisation, and professionalism, while driving kitchen performance from our Bayswater HQ.

You’ll manage all aspects of execution - from menu development and staff supervision to event delivery and equipment logistics. The Head Chef is responsible for maintaining a high-performing kitchen culture that reflects our brand values and consistently delivers across large-scale weddings, corporate events, and private functions. With venues ranging from Perth metro to occasional South-West destinations (travel incentives apply), this hands-on leadership role demands precision, calm under pressure, and an uncompromising commitment to exceptional food.

Key Responsibilities

Kitchen Leadership

Oversee all kitchen operations and staff, ensuring efficient and timely execution of event and prep services.

Provide strong leadership across casual and core teams, fostering accountability, communication, and professionalism.

Act as the main point of contact between kitchen and front-of-house teams during events.

Food Preparation & Presentation

Lead and participate in all aspects of food production, ensuring consistency and high quality.

Deliver a wide variety of food styles confidently—ranging from canapés and shared feasts to plated multi-course menus and large-scale buffet formats.

Uphold refined plating and presentation standards across all event types.

Menu Planning & Development

Collaborate with the Executive Chef and Director to develop menus aligned with brand standards, seasonal availability, and event styles.

Innovate and adapt offerings to suit client briefs, venue constraints, and event format.

Staff Management

Train, supervise, and motivate kitchen staff, including Sous Chefs, Chefs, and Kitchen Hands.

Provide mentoring and performance feedback to uphold high execution standards across all levels.

Assist with staff rostering and allocation of responsibilities as required.

Event Delivery & Execution

Oversee food logistics, including transport, setup, and service for off-site events.

Ensure efficient kitchen pack-down and compliance with venue requirements and catering equipment protocols.

Provide clear direction and real-time problem-solving during events to uphold timing and quality.

Compliance & Hygiene

Maintain a safe, clean, and compliant kitchen environment at all times.

Ensure staff are trained and adhering to food safety, hygiene, and WHS protocols.

Conduct and maintain relevant kitchen checklists and records as required.

Please note: This role requires exceptional leadership, creativity, and precision. Candidates will only be considered if they demonstrate a significantly high level of skill across diverse service styles, strong visual presentation, and the ability to manage both people and process with professionalism and calm.

Candidate Requirements

Minimum 5+ years of experience in senior kitchen leadership roles, ideally in catering, events, or fine dining.

Exceptional skills across multiple service formats, plating styles, and menu types.

High-level leadership and team management abilities.

Comfortable working in both structured kitchen environments and off-site, mobile kitchen setups.

Current Food Safety Supervisor certification.

Valid (C-A minimum) driver’s licence

Flexibility to work evenings/weekends and split shifts where necessary.
