AOD Counsellor - Group Facilitator
Lives Lived Well
Posted 10 days ago
The AOD Counsellor (1 day per week) – RRR Program will deliver group therapy content to men on the RRR program and provide follow up support as required. The position will support men to recognise and reflect on problematic and unhealthy relationship behaviour.
The Recognise, Reflect, Respect (RRR) program by Lives Lived Well (LLW) is a pioneering initiative designed to address domestic and family violence (DFV) through early intervention, focusing on both the gendered drivers of violence and the psychosocial factors that exacerbate abusive behaviours. With a holistic approach, the program integrates group-based education and individual therapy to foster sustainable behavioural change.
This initiative specifically targets self-identified men who are ready to acknowledge and address problematic behaviours, often tied to co-occurring alcohol and other drug (AOD) use, mental health complexities, and past trauma. It is built on the understanding that addressing DFV in isolation is insufficient; instead, the program tackles the broader systemic, relational, and personal factors that contribute to cycles of violence.
The RRR program offers:
1. Group Therapy:
o A 12-week curriculum informed by the Duluth model, emphasising the relationship between gendered power dynamics and violence.
o Participants engage in closed-group (90 mins per group) settings of up to ten individuals to foster trust and accountability while exploring themes such as entitlement, control, and respect.
2. Individual Therapy:
o Tailored, one-on-one psychological support to address the underlying causes of abusive behaviours, including trauma, substance use, and undiagnosed mental health issues
Your role will be to facilitate the group component alongside a co-facilitator. Training will be provided to build your skills and capability to run a men's group safely and with the safety of themselves, their partners and their children in mind.
We will be running three rounds of the 12-week program as part of the funding agreement. One in Wollongong, one in Nowra (both in person) and one online.
What you'll need:
- A passion for DFV prevention
- A knowledge or desire to learn about the gendered drivers of violence
- An ability to recognise and respond to risk factors
- A desire to support men to learn healthy relationship behaviour
