Gurriny Yealamucka Health Services Aboriginal Corporation (GYHSAC) is seeking full-time and part-time Primary Health Care Nurses.
About us
GYHSAC is the Community controlled Indigenous health provider to over 4000 residents of Yarrabah: Australia’s largest First Nations community. Located east of Cairns - less than an hour drive from the city centre.
GYHSAC is a cornerstone of the Yarrabah Community and strives to provide culturally appropriate, autonomous primary health services initiated, planned, and governed by the Community through their elected Aboriginal Board of Directors.
The Position
You will work in collaboration with experienced and supportive Clinical Teams to provide culturally sensitive, evidenced-based nursing care and services. In the course of your work (at either one of our two clinics or in patient's homes), you will engage patients and their families through positive health promotion that fosters a sense of personal control that encourages and enables healthy lifestyles and supports the principles of preventative health.
Providing support for clinic workflows, you will utilise established care plans and a multidisciplinary health team approach to coordinating and delivering high quality, person-centred Nursing care that aligns with the ACCHO model of comprehensive primary health care, to standards that comply with clinical policy and RACGP accreditation requirements.
Skills and experience
Understanding of and commitment to the principles of Aboriginal community control, cultural identity, practices and beliefs
Demonstrated understanding of the health, social and emotional wellbeing needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
Clinical knowledge and expertise in delivering nursing care and services within a primary health care setting
Interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills capable of influencing outcomes, including the ability to communicate effectively within an Indigenous community setting
AHPRA registration and a commitment to complying with the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Competencies, Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct for Nurses in Australia
Agreement with and commitment to observing and upholding organisational mission, vision, and values and their application to this position
Teamwork & Cooperation

Other position requirements
Availability during clinic hours (8:00am - 4:30pm) Monday to Friday
Commitment to maintaining ongoing CPR certification
Current Queensland driver licence
Employment with GYHSAC requires you to have Australian citizenship, or to be a permanent resident of Australia or New Zealand, or to have a valid visa that provides work rights.
