Disability Support Worker (High Intensity Supports) – Macedon Ranges Area

About the Role:

We are seeking experienced, compassionate, and proactive Disability Support Workers to support a young NDIS participant with high intensity and complex needs in the Macedon Ranges area. This role involves working closely with the family and allied health professionals to implement a comprehensive behaviour support plan that includes strategies for safety, communication, and sensory regulation.

Support needs may include:

Assisting with daily routines, including personal care and mealtimes.

Supporting non-verbal communication (e.g. gestures, AAC, visual supports).

Implementing proactive and responsive strategies for behaviours of concern including self-injury, aggression, PICA, property damage, and absconding.

Providing consistent supervision and environmental safety (e.g. secured environments, mechanical restraints such as a harness or pram).

Administering support in line with regulated restrictive practices under supervision and with training.

Delivering sensory-based engagement and emotional regulation supports.

Key Responsibilities:

Work 1:1 in both home and community settings.

Maintain a calm, trauma-informed and person-centred approach at all times.

Accurately complete behaviour incident and data reports.

Ensure safety during transport and community access.

Engage the participant in therapeutic play, music, sensory activities and routines.

Promote independence and emotional development through structured activities.

About You:

Certificate IV or Diploma in Community services in Disability, Individual Support or equivalent (essential).

Experience supporting children with behaviours of concern (e.g. PICA, self-injury, aggression).

Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support and implementing behaviour support plans.

Willingness to be trained in restrictive practice protocols and emergency response.

Excellent communication and observational skills.

Current First Aid, CPR, NDIS Worker Screening Check, Working With Children Check (WWCC), and valid driver’s licence.

Desirable:

Manual handling, PEG feeding, epilepsy, or complex behaviour support training.

Knowledge of sensory processing needs and strategies.

Familiarity with visual communication aids and AAC devices.
