ABOUT THE ROLE

Hunter Primary Care currently has an opportunity for an additional mental health clinician (Psychologist/Clin. Psychologist/MH OT/Social Worker/MH RN) with relevant experience in youth mental health. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the leading headspace service, to make a contribution to youth mental health and well-being in our community and to work within a multi-disciplinary team and co-located youth services.

DUTIES

The person in this role will be expected to work with young people 12-25 with, presenting with mental health challenges, by engaging with them and their families, undertaking mental health assessments and delivering mental health clinical treatment / therapeutic interventions throughout their contact with the headspace Newcastle Service.

The successful applicant in this role will have relevant tertiary qualifications in Psychology/Clinical Psychology, Occupational Therapy or Nursing (including full general registration with AHPRA), or Social Work, and will have demonstrated experience providing clinical treatment for mental health disorders.

The position is based in the Newcastle area, and may be required to work across multiple sites within the Port Stephens and Lake Macquarie areas dependent on service needs.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology/Clinical Psychology, Occupational Therapy or Nursing
  • Current registration with AHPRA or accreditation with AASW.
  • Relevant experience in delivering mental health clinical treatment / therapeutic interventions with young people, their families/carers in a mental health setting.
  • Experience working with young people who have self-harmed, attempted suicide or who have suicidal ideation preferred, and/or those with emerging and established mental illnesses.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work autonomously, whilst being part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Relevant experience in providing individualised clinical treatment for mental health disorders to young people and their families/carers.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the developmental issues for young people, their families and carers.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills including skills in clinical note writing, clinical reports and care recommendations, as well as experience in facilitating effective client referrals to alternate providers.
  • Ongoing training and professional development in the areas of youth mental health and drug and alcohol work highly regarded.
  • Vaccinations as required in line with Hunter Primary Care policies
  • Current NSW Working with Children Check clearance

This position is an Allied Health level 3 or Psychology Level 2 position under the Hunter Primary Care Agreement 2021. Hunter Primary Care offers you:
